I actually took this photo on my birthday, it features a skier, one of myfriends who's part of the Summit Saga crew, standing in the volcanic steam fields of Mount Asahidake in Hokkaido, Japan.
At 2,291 metres, Asahidake is the tallest mountain in Hokkaido and Japan’s most active volcano, constantly erupting steam and sulfur through the snow-covered landscape and for just a moment the wind shifted and Zander appeared through the steam like a ghost emerging from another world.
It ended up becoming one of the most recognisable photos from our time exploring Hokkaido and has since been seen by over 5 million people. If I’d known that while editing it, I might have spent a bit more time on it.
